MAN DOWN!!! Second Casualty
Two weeks ago I was driving in the highway at about 65-75mph in normal mode (cruising in 6th gear obviously) all of a sudden the car went into 5th gear raking the RPM and slowing the car , I was lucky I was not going faster and had both hands the wheel otherwise I could have easily lost control of the car or the car behind me could have slammed into me.
As I was trying to figure what had just happened I slowed down and noticed the car would not take 6th gear I tried to do it manually and nothing happened. As I was slowing down to reach the emergency lane the car jumped from 5th to 3rd and then again from 3rd to 1st gear. I stopped and no warnings light had gone on so I figured what ever it was it was fixed as I accelerated back into the highway the it was still doing the same thing when I manually changed gears It went from 1st to 3rd. For some reasons it did not want to take 2nd, 4th or 6th gears. I stopped again, turned the car off and turned it back on and everything was back to normal.
However, since then the problem has happened 2 more times , the last time been last night. It always happens while I’m cruising at high speeds in normal mode, not in traffic. Each time it seems as if the gears get stuck inside the tranny or something and I have to stop and turn the car off to make it go away. It is really annoying and dangerous as it happens unexpectedly. The weirdest part is that no warning light come on and there is no indication from the car that something is wrong.
YESSS!!!! This is the same problem hernandez had back in April. Just wanted everyone to know you might be next!
The first problem I had with the TC-SST happened a month after buying the car. It only had 500 miles on it but back then the Transmition problem light came on. I was lucky the dealer change the car for a new one back then. This car is a little over 14k now, I dont know if I will be as lucky this time.
I only have two things to say F*** THIS CAR!!! and F*** Mitsubishi!!!! Sorry no offense to anyone...just needed a place to vent.

has anyone ever "played around" with your tcu or ecu ? ?
are your paddle shifters overly sensitive ?
my paddles do not take much pressure to shift.
i have accidentally up-shifted by just bumping the + paddle before.
never accidentally down shifted though.

Sounds to me like the tranny computer is mucking up on one group of gears.
Get it to the dealer ASAP.

I would keep the bashing until you go to the dealer. You're obviously still covered under warranty so I would take the car back. If they can't fix the problem then you can start getting upset.
Let us know what happens at the dealership.

I never use flappy paddles EVER!!! I think its the dumbest thing they ever made in a car. Why not just use your shifter.
i wonder if this is just a thing with people who use the paddle shifters. Did hernandez use paddle shifters as well.

What does he need to do? Put plastic on the paddle shifters for protection?
Cmon now they put those there on purpose and are meant to be used when needed.

+1 -- but wouldn't losing the even side screw up reverse too (because reverse use some of the forward gears), or does reverse just use the odd forward gears?

I think what you're talking about is the Evo X GSR 5-spd manual? That might share 2 drive gears + an idler to make reverse.
The TC-SST 6spd has a real reverse gear installed, fortunately for this guy, on the odd gear shaft. So if his evens are screwed up, he should still have reverse coming off the odd shaft.
