Factory turbo timer
I dont know if anyone noticed but when shutting off the car, theres a 2-3 sec delay before shutting down. Is it possible the the RA has a factory turbo timer and if it does are we able to adjust the time to allow the turbo to cool down before shutting down. Figure a good minute than shutting down or an aftermarket turbo timer is needed. I always give the car a good 2 minutes to cool down from a long drive than shutting down.

No, this has been discussed before, that's not a turbo timer.

Look, you don't have to allow the turbo to cool down if you didn't race the engine prior to coming to complete stop. Allowing the car to cool down 2 mins is waste of gas, period!! I have a APEXi turbo timer, I put in auto mode, it will basically check and see if the engine needs to be delay shut off, most of time it nevers delay shut off, only when I rev it while trying to park in the garage then it will delay shut off for no more than 30 seconds.

It is the transmission clutches and gearing disengaging.

Unless you peak boost down your street, and up your driveway. There really is no need to get a turbo timer for the X/RA...I forget where I read this from...I'll try to find it somewhere.

He's right, unless you're really really hard on the motor, it's unnecessary.

^ exactly what i was going to say. and even if you are, and you shut it off with very high engine/engine bay temps, there is an after-run fan setting that will engage your cooling fans automatically even while the car is turned off, hence that little sticker on the cowl that says "Caution, electric fans may come on at any time...blah, blah..." you know the one.

Another factor in not needing a turbo timer is running full synthetic Mobil 1 oil. In the bad old days of oil pumped up out of the desert sands oil was MUCH more likely to coke up on the turbo bearings if you shut down right after some high performance driving. Even then if you didn't drive too much like a jackhole you were fine.

Turbo timers are not as necessary nowadays. Most timers wont even keep the car on unless you were running the car hard just before parking.

really if it was nessecary and needed on the car they would have put it on from the factory.... but then again, it says in the owners manual after hard runs to let the car run for a 1-2 min
