Emergency Suspension Install Q

I am in the middle of installing some new KYB struts and S Tech springs on my 04 Ralliart and we ran into something we didnt expect. The stock strut is removed, the spring is compressed, and we are trying to remove the center bolt from the top.. but when we try to turn the bolt the entire piston rotates with it. Holding it did not work, a vice grip did not work, even gorilla gluing a rubber pad to the shaft and holding with a vice grip did not keep the entire piston from turning with the bolt. Any ideas on getting this bolt off?

hey, thanks for the quick feedback. We tried pushing the top down, but the piece there is held in place (stuck b/w the bolt and the lip at the top of the piston). We had the idea to weld something on too, but dont have the tools, and it is too late in the day to find somewhere to have it done. I guess it's off to the shop in the morning.

thanks again for the ideas

If you're using an impact to take the nut off, tapping the trigger will help to break it loose. Everytime I've changed mine around that's happened (or just about) and that technique has always worked.

Yup, impact is the best way. If you don't have air tools, your local tire place can zip them off for you in no time.

I dont have shots of the rears yet, but here is my cardomain page and the fronts
Pay no attention to how nasty the stock wheels are, I replaced those along with the suspension. 17x7 Motegi SP10s with 215/40/17 Toyo Proxes 4 tires!
