Loose wheel bearing
Hey guys,
I got a 2005 lancer ralliart and I recently had my suspension looked at by minit-tune. They came to a conclusion that I have a loose wheel bearing on the front left side of the car.
I was wondering if this is a fix I can handle myself by simply replacing the wheelbearing or do I need some sort of press (dude at minit-tune mentioned usiing a press?)?
Also, does anyone know the size of the huge bolt in the middle of the rotor so I can get to the wheel bearing? I did not seem to have a socket or crescent wrench big enough to fit.

hey, guess what. mee too, front left side. 05 ralliart.
I talked to a friend who is a mechanic and he said our types would be easiest to replace with a press.
I don't know the size of the huge bolt (nut you mean actually, the nut on the CV shaft)
But at a local shop quoted me at $574 to replace both sides (mind as well replace both sides) and a dealership quoted me at $390 for one side (never going back to the dealership again though if you have read my other thread in the ralliart general thread)

IIRC, it's a 32mm nut.
That said, it's not the easiest thing to DIY. Need to remove the axle then take the hub apart, which requires a press. You can't get at the wheel bearing by just removing the axle nut.

I changed my left side only because that was the one that was really worn.. took 4 hours, a 20 ton press, 2 RBFH, a few huge sockets, and a 3 jaw bearing puller.
on the side note.. I am REALLY dissapointed how the dealership put my car back together after they repaired the transmission... impacted things on and didn torque them, having everything overtorqued as a result. nuts and bolts that are too long put in holes that weren't meant for them.. castle nut not on the tire rod end (they used some scrap nut they found...) and they stripped the threads on my cv shaft...
