Question

I was also wondering if Dimpled + slotted were suitable for DD. I have decided against crossed drilled after reading several post, is dimpling adding anything beneficial over just slotted rotors. (vented only is only 2 yr warrany vs lifetime for dimple+slotted). Thinking of these with EBC Red pads???

I haven't heard of that brake company before but I just bought some dimpled/slotted rotors for my RA and once you find out how it goes let me know cause I'm not installing them til spring time...

As for the pads... if you're only using this car as a DD then I woudln't suggest the Reds because unless you're going to track the car you won't get the pads hot enough for their full potential use... this is what I've heard so if I'm wrong don't flame me... but if you want to go with the EBC brand you should be able to use the Greens no problem

I thought the reds were not suggested for track use, at least on EBC website. I do alot of stop & go driving (traffic) should't that heat up the pads???

yes stop and go traffic would heat them up but i dont think hot enough that would be enough to get the full potential out of them

in terms of brand, i would go with a brand with a reputation within this community for our cars, like R1 Concepts. They had a forum discount goin on a while back, not sure if it's still goin. They're premium line is great quality and they have great customer service.

as for slotted & dimpled, i say go for both. you already know cross-drilled is a bad idea. from my understanding, dimples essentially add volume displacement of hot gas from the pads to the displacement you get from slots. I got both slotted and dimpled, and I'm very impressed so far. I've done two mountain runs so far to test them out. Yesterday I descended a twisty mountain using the brakes hard, intending to see if I could get them to heat up too much. Didn't feel like I even got close. They stayed well within their comfortable temp range with no hints of fade. That's with R1 concepts premium & Hawk HPS.

Keep in mind though, slots and dimpled will only come into play when the pads are hot enough to break down their resins and release hot gases, which happens when you're using mostly abrasive friction forces, which won't really be the case in every day driving. Point being, you'll only notice a difference when you're consistently using the brakes fairly hard. Someone correct me if I've explained something poorly.

As for pads, I personally recommend EBC redstuff or Hawk HPS. I've liked both and both are on the low dust end of the spectrum compared to similarly-performing pads. If you won't be doing much aggressive driving or any auto-x, I'd say EBC greenstuff would be just fine for you.
