Winter Tires

Hey gang,

Looking at getting a new set of winter tires for my 2006 Lancer Ralliart. Being as going to get steel rims as well, what other sizes can I possibly get other than the stock 205/50-16? Any suggestions as well?

Cheers,

Al.

You can drop down to 15" and then you should have more tire options to choose from. Either a 205/55/15 or a 195/60/15. The latter would be ideal, since a thinner tire is better in the snow.

I got brand new Gislaved Nordfrost 5 - 195/60R15 on my RA 2006 and I can't wait for the snow to come !!

195/60R15 is the recommended size for 15 inches. If I remember correctly !

I have Blizzak's on my car and I havent put them on yet and all I can say is I need them or else I suck at driving. They have saved my ass so much... you wont regret them.

But on to the true question, I run Blizzak's on my stock rims for like $110 a tire and then I have an aftermarket set with my street tires. The work well but dont rock the winter tires after the temp raises back up for like 45 deg or else you will destroy thier soft compund. Its not gonna hurt it for like a week but if you drive like a month with them on consider them done for.

Hands down, the best winter tire is the Nokian Hakkapeliitta tires. But they dont come cheap. If you are looking for winter tires in Canada, don't wait too long. There is a shortage of them up here as every driver in Quebec is required to have winter tires from Nov - Apr by law. Getting caught without them is something along the lines of a $300.00 fine.

actually it's December 15th, not November

But yeah, Nokians are the best but expensive. This is why I got the Gislaved. I was debating between the Gislaved and the Pirelli Winter Carving !

I stand corrected. It is Dec 15th to March 15th. The fines range form $200.00 - $300.00 CDN. There is also no demerits attached to this fine.

Thanks for the info guys. Have a friend who has some 205/60/15 tires. Would they fit if I bought some steelies to go with them?

Cheers,

Al.

205/60's seem a bit tall for the car. I'd look at Blizzak WS-60's in 195/60-15 on steel wheels.

205's aren't really too wide, that's the width I run for snow tires.

I would have to agree with that. My first set of dedicated snow tires were Nokian Hakka Qs. They made an AWD turbo car practically unstoppable in the snow.

Those were discontinued by the time I was looking to replace them, so I got some Nokian WRs. They're still good tires, just not quite as good in snow as the Hakkapeliitta line.

Hi all,

So my friend found the tires at his parents garage and turns out he gave the wrong size. They are actually 215/60/16. I believe they should fit my car, but figured I'd ask. Anyone know for sure. thanks in advance.

Cheers,

I think they might be to wide i tried a set of 215's/ can't remeber right now if they were 70 or 60/16 and they rubbed.Do 205/60/16 fit for sure with no rubbing, cause im working on getting a used set for cheap.First full winter im going to be driving the ralliart full time on the highway, the stocks suck for sure but there good enough for around the city and the odd winter auto x.

Nope, they're far too big. 215 is too wide for the stock rim and the 60 profile is way too tall. It's a full 2" larger than the stock tire.
