HVAC air flow knob stuck?

Hey all,

So, I was trying to switch the air flow from the front vents to the defroster/legs part this morning. Something inside the dashboard moved half way and then got stuck. I can move the knob back and forth but the air flow is stuck on the front vents.

The temperature knob works fine (for now) but the air flow selector knob doesnt move anything internally (hope that make sense)

is there anyway to fix this?

may be something useful in there cause they talk about seized hvac controls. havent read through the entire thing but might be a solution or something

thanks for the link. I read the thread early but I wasn't sure if it will apply to that selector knob.

i'll take a look under the dash tomorrow.

Anyone have any ideas?

so wait... the air flow direction knob can turn... but doesnt do anything about changing the air from the dash vents to like the windshield or feet if my understanding is correct

did you hear a snapping sound when this happened? only thing i can think of is you either slipped the pin outside of the hole in the gear that selects the vents or you broke the hole in the pin... just take out your hvac and see whats going on

yeah, that's correct. It turns with a tiny bit of resistance.

When I turned the air flow knob, it began to switch at first... but then it stopped and the knob had less resistance.

I looked under the near the driver side and saw the gears thingy for the temperature knob but I can't find the air flow gears (Assuming there is gears for that knob?)

Is there a particular places I should be looking? and how do i go abuot removing the hvac unit?

I've never done that before.

So, I removed the front panel that covers the radio and the HVAC unit and took a look inside. The cable that moves the vent selector looks bent. When I turn the the knob, the cable doesnt go back into the tube. It just bends.

Is it possible to replace the cable? or am i screwed?
