Midpipe and Flowmaster Muffler

Got the factory-crushed midpipe cut out and replaced, and had a Flowmaster DBX muffler installed at the same time. The rest is stock exhaust system.

New Not-Crushed Pipe

Lots of Ground Clearance (can't even see it behind the flex section)

Sounds great! Do you think removing the crushed pipe makes much of a difference? I mean what can you really expect gains wise from a muffler on a NA 4cyl. <5 HP I assume. I looked at a muffler as more of a sound thing that a performance gain.

If you see the stock midpipe it is really flattened, the new piece has to help at higher rpm. The stock muffler is not too restrictive but is not a straight-thru design while the Flowmaster is. For $125 and I supplied the muffler it was a painless mod, didn't even have to remove the pipes, just cut and weld in place. Got the sound I wanted.

At high revs you will definitely notice that the engine revs more quickly, a smidgin of bottom end will be lost though.

Good to know. I may be doing an exhaust soon just for kicks and I'll have to look into removing the midpipe.
