IMO its saves $500+ to do all the 60k stuff yourself, but that's if you're confident enough in having a decent understanding of your engine, and you can survive without it running for 1-2 days if you take it slow.

Some people have been successful at doing more complicated tasks themselves. I just had a client who did the timing belt themselves and they did not set the tensioner correctly. Cost them the top end of their engine.
Some people have the mechanical knowledge and aptitude to pull stuff off themselves but others simply do not. Maybe it's better to spend the extra 5h working some overtime and take that money and put it toward paying a professional to do it. Depends on your situation and how many experienced friends you have who can double check or answer questions.
