Throwout bearing?
I had read in another thread about the car making noise when the throwout bearing is going out. Mine does this. When i put in a ACT stage 3 clutch it didnt come with a throwout bearing and the one in it looked ok so i just threw it in. That was about a year and a half ago. Now it is getting very difficult to go through the gears when i am driving.Especially when the tranny heats up. It doesnt grind but it is VERY notchy. What i am wanting to know is could this be a side effect of a throwout bearing going bad?

I don't know about you but when my shifting got notchy it wasn't the throw out bearing. What type of noise do you have. If its a light chattering that goes away when you push the clutch pedal down it might not be the TOB... when I did my clutch I replaced the TOB and it started to chatter immediately, then did the same when i replaced it while rebuilding the tranny...
The notchy shifting I had was from the dreaded synchro's... I had to replace the first, second and also had to replace the 2nd gear and sliding straight cut gear. Also replaced rev and the synchro to be on the safe side. 2200$ and 3 months later... minty tranny :-) and a car thats still only worth like 7K... :-(

It's possible that your clutch isn't fully disengaging. Inspect your master/slave clutch cylinders for leakage. If they're fine, bleed the clutch line so you're sure there's no air in there. You might also need to adjust your clutch pedal a bit.

Actually that symptom is a clear sign it is the TOB. In the DSM world it is a given to ALWAYS use the OEM Mitsubishi TOB when doing a clutch. I'm sure the same applies for Evos. With that said, a heavy duty clutch can sometimes have noise regardless and chatter even with the stock TOB as it wears.
But yeah, if you're having trouble going through the gears check for leaks and hope its that and you don't need a rebuild.

I have a ACT T.O.B laying around. Mine didn't come with one I got it thinking I need to replace. But I had to replace the whole clutch, pressure plate (Half of teeth missing) & all. I down grade my clutch to a stage 1, got it from ACT it brought every thing. so if u need it let me no.

I have had 2 OEM mitsu TOB's and they still make the whirring sound when the car is on almost 100 miles after starting the breakin period... I've gotten used to it and have assumed that its normal. haha
