SRI on automatic Ralliart?

I was just wondering if anyone with an automatic gearbox had tried a short ram intake and if it had any noticeable effect.

Sorry, I just can't bring myself to pay $200 for an Injen CAI (I'm used to get generic eBay CAIs for most cars for under $50)

you;re gonna get flamed, but search more, this subject has been beaten to death so much that it has a sticky.

yes you will experience gains, but minimal.

also with short ram, you dont have to worry about fitment transmission since piping doesnt go down there

i have an injen CAI for my 06 AT RA, you can feel the gain top end... i think that if your going to mod for performance, might as well go big or go home... water is not a problem!

this one from RPW looks interesting, its like a SRI and CAI, has a SRI pipe which then the filter is shielded and then a hose goes down for cold air, can be either SRI or CAI ...

yes I know that SRI vs CAI has been covered in length, but what I'm interested in is what difference it made on an AUTOMATIC car.

Which one would actually make the most difference with an automatic gearbox?

I have an automatic transmission too. Honestly, on an AT, I think that the difference in gains between the two would be so small that you probably wouldn't really notice, so it probably doesn't matter which way you go.

But, if you're undecided, I would recommend going with the Injen intake since you can go back and forth between the two configurations. Then you can see for yourself which one you prefer over the other. I personally went with the SRI because the risk of hydrolocking the car during rainy days and having to cut a hole underneath to make room for the CAI wasn't worth it in my opinion. But that's just my two cents.

I've been really happy with my SRI though. The sound is amazing too. Stomping on the gas and hearing that HUGE sucking sound coming from the engine bay brings a smile to my face every time.

Good luck!

I had the injen CAI and ran it as an SRI on my automatic RA. it had decent gains and a nice sound to it.

does anyone know if the ebay CAIs will work on an automatic as an SRI? I've never paid more than $50 for an intake on ANY car before and I don't plan on starting now.

are there any other cheap SRIs?

^look up a thread by dangeous dan about hacking your stock air box to make a SRI other than that you could try the forsale section else no, coz the MAF is sensitive and the replacement intake pipe needs to be perfect size else you'll have bad idle, throw codes etc hence alot of R&D(and cash) was spent make them and companies need to turn a profit ...

so, DOES anyone know if you can just use an eBay CAI on an automatic by only using the top piece as an SRI?

^if its solid pipe, most likely not coz the AT takes up more room than the MT, you could fit it but then after a while of driving you might find the pipe crushed due to engine movement, hence why RPQ use a flexible pipe
