Stupid or not?

im planning on boosting my ra. im going to fabricate my own header and once i do im planning on leaving the turbo hooked up.can you run a turbo without the cold side hooked up temporarily or will it kill lots of power ?

You'll lose power but the car will function. You won't want to do it without having the oil lines hooked up to the turbo, either.

why wouldn't you wanna use the aftercooler (intercooler)? Lower intake temps. Better performance. There are kits out there that do not use an intercooler and even some factory cars that never came with intercoolers. I just see negative affects when not using an intercooler. That is my experience. All up to you though.

I think you're missing what he's asking. He's asking if he can build a turbo manifold (I'm assuming out of his stock one, otherwise this is a really stupid question) install the turbo onto the exhaust, but don't actually hook it up to the car's intake. Basically, the turbo won't be doing anything but spinning and throwing air around the engine bay.

i'd say wait til you have everything ready and then hook everything up together at the same time,

the car will function but I'm guessin you'll get lag just like any normal turbo car depending on the size of the turbo

and if you do have the oil/coolant lines hooked up the turbo should operate normally except for the fact that its just pushin air around the engine bay instead of into the intake manifold

I am sure if you can make a manifold for your turbo you can make a block of plate to go over where the turbo sits till you get everything else ready for install. I personally would not hook the turbo up just to the exhaust side because you dont want to suck somthing in the turbo and not have a filter on it. If your going to put piping and a filter then you might as well hook everything else up also. Just a little thought, why would you have your turbo spinning and collecting all that heat when its not doing anything for your motor at all ?? I would refer back to my first statement, block of plate if anything.

Find someone selling a manifold to make a turbo manifold and then you won't have to mess with it. A stock header sells for cheap and I'm sure someone on here with an aftermarket setup would send you their old stock one.

Shure you can do it!!!! I did it and had it running like that for about 2 weeks; the reason was that I had some problems with my maf adaptor (didn't want to cut my air box) ........ any way it works fine...but you will lose power, and a lot 'cause the turbo is a big restriction for the exhaust (my wild guess - never measured it- is arround 20hp)
Insisting on what otter said remember to hook your oil lines or you will kill your turbo.
Also remeber you'll need two air filters one for the engine and one for the turbo (it will suck air), what I did is that I installed a aftermarket cone filter directly to the turbo and let the engine with the original air box.
