Starter

Okay, I have my 2004 Ralliart, and the starter is going out. So i'm poor, but i need to fix it because i drive to and from school everyday like 30 miles. So getting stranded would suck. Can anyone give me step-by-step for an install of the new starter?
How hard is it? I've never done any mod's or anything. I'm also lazy, so if its super tough, I'll have to take it somewhere.

Also would like some recommendations for a shop in or around Akron Ohio, because the dealer ****ed me when i went to get my suspension fixed.

It's a piece of cake. Two bolts and a wiring harness. The starter is located underneath the exhaust manifold, under a heat shield. Once you get down to it, you'll see that it's pretty self explanatory. Basically, remove the exhaust manifold heat shield, to give you a bit more room to work, then remove the heat shield protecting the starter, disconnect the wires to the starter, then remove the two bolts holding in the starter.

I'm pretty sure it can be done without removing the exhaust manifold, but if you don't have enough space to work, then you'll have to pull it.

take off heat shield and intake box (or aftermarket intake if you have that), and then you remove things in this order according to the service manual

1.STARTER COVER
2.HARNESS CLAMP
3.STARTER CONNECTOR
4.STARTER TERMINAL
5.STARTER ASSEMBLY
6.STARTER COVER BRACKET

The numbers DO correlate to the picture

Thanks! I decided to re check the battery and spark plugs before i replaced the starter.
It was the battery.
Now I know for next time.

Its about to roll over to 100k so I'm sure I'll have to put one in sometime.

normally when its the starter it will make a grinding noise, not a lagging noise for future reference.

Dead starters will either do nothing, due to a dead solenoid, or make a click and do nothing, if the starter's drive shaft is rusted in the housing.
