Free mods: Removing intake silencer

I am sure you have all seen the little hump/box on the unterside of you stock intake.this box IS removable and is EMPTY.All it does is silence the intake and soak up heat(which is not benificial in any way).
1- Remove intake by removing little push pins on front frame.to do this you must have a small flat head screw driver to pull them up OR you can push them down.then lightly pull up and pull intake tube towards you.

2- pop out silver pins by taking a small screwdriver and a hammer or whatever is handy and place small screwdriver in hole on silver pin and hit it.this may take a few minutes.to remove them completely you MUST have a pair of needle nose pliers.once pin is pushed thru ( screw driver should be nearly all the way down) use pliers and pop the pins.

** optional..get a plug from a auto parts store or a piggy bank and cover hole

3.slide intake tube back in and replace the black push pins.you are now done and should have a slightly louder intake as well as cooler air flowing thru for better performance gains.

this mod should get a gain of 1-5 HP as cooler air will be flowing into your intake. heres some pics.. sorry if they are a little blurry.

Slightly louder. Its more of a throatier soand and you can hear the air get sucked in when you hit the throttle cable while the hood is up. It brings in more cold air thus the SLIGHT hp increase.. I am estimating it since I havent dyno'd my car yet and I have a piggyback now too so its gonna be hard to tell with mine. But from prior experience with cars the colder the air the more HP gains.thats why I said 1-5. 1 being the minimum and MOST LIKELY and 5 bieng the very best...at any rate its a helpful free mod.

Isn't that small box just a safety in case water gets in the intake?

I think he's talking about the intake resonator. Technically it's just there to kill the loud sound of an intake, taking it off will make the intake louder and may add a miniscule amount of Hp. However on my lanos, i only noticed a very tiny amount of performance. maxing out 3rd gear (auto) had a better acceleration... thats it.

i doubt that it increases any hp or decreases the temp, since you are still getting air from the same place

The box gets hot? Everything in the engine bay gets hot so your really just pulling in hot air. The only way to get cold air would be through a CAI or somthing that pulls in air from directly under the car or through say the fog light housing.
Either way it's still a free mod. By the way it's pretty hard to tell your a she from typing
